Playing Around with Plista

So I’ve been toying around with a recommendation egine I found recently called Plista. It has plugins for three popular browsers, namely Firefox, Chrome, and IE as well as WordPress. The engine only works on a few sites, but it seems pretty solid. A complete list of compatible sites is below. The way the engine works is thrugh recommendations. When you visit a compatible site, Plista recommends stories for you based on what you like. It then gives you the ability to rate the how well you liked the story. Recommendations get more accurate the more you use the ratings features. Of course, if you have a wide range of interests like myself, the engine keeps the recommendations broadly based. Plista also allows you to import your Facebook settings realting to location and your avatar. And as any good web technology should, Plista allows you to recommend stories to friends.

It is an interesting idea and it certainly seems to fit with the way social netowrking is going these days.

Here’s the link, check it out for yourself: Plista

Lifehacker – Upcoming Tech That Will Rock Your World – Google Wave.

I think I’m most excited by Google Wave. It seems like a really intuitive way to organize and process communication. Of course operating systems are moving in the direction of being faster, more stable, and cleaner (i.e. they take up less space on the hard drive).
